Celebrating our first month
Our Women’s Shed has now been open for a whole month. We have had women of all ages attending, including a couple of men.
We mostly sit around and chat while our fingers are busy with crochet or knitting. We have a couple of beginners who are learning a lot from one of our very experienced crocheters.
We started this group just after the first COVID-19 lock-down restrictions lifted as we saw a need for people to reconnect face-to-face again. So many people in our community have not been able to access technology or have been feeling isolated for a number of reasons.
We have a COVID Safe policy that we follow that includes sanitising the floors, chairs, counters, tables, door handles and light switches. We have hand sanitiser for use on entering and leaving, an attendance register, that includes recording your temperature. (We may ask you to leave if you are sick or have a high temperature). Our toilets are cleaned thoroughly before the start. Just this week, we have started wearing face masks.
It’s been great getting to know different people of different ages who have all had different lives. We are all doing our best to walk this journey of life and I am enjoying the sharing of experiences each week. In so many ways the ‘projects’ we are all doing is secondary to the friendships we are creating.
So, if you are retired, looking for work or finally have the kids at school or daycare, take some time for yourself and join in. There is no obligation to attend every week and there is plenty of room for more.
On a different note, our facilities are old and in need of some attention, so I have been making face masks and selling them to raise funds for some much needed repairs. We have a plumber coming soon and I can’t wait to show the before and after photos.
Stay safe,
